thanks OK, I can nslookup an external smtp server and get the MX record, this works. When I 'telnet <server> 25' this doesnt work. If I telent to the forwarding server it does work.
This mail server has multiple cards each with it's own ip, only the ip associated with the mail.mydomain.com has access to the internet. In System Manager, 'default SMTP virtual server', General, IP Address is set to use the interface with the IP address with access. To me this looks like it is setup properly, I do not know what interface telnet used so these tests have been inconclusive. Any suggestion ?
