We also take the "less formal" approach. I usually come in about 1 Saturday
a month (maybe 1.5) to get some server work done. I keep track of that time
myself, and use it to take an hour here and there in the middle of the day
or to leave early so that I can take care of personal business. It helps
that we're a relaxed environment (as most schools are) and there's no profit
motive to drive employees as hard as possible. Most people here work hard
because they believe in what they're doing, and the administration knows
that.

We do it one for one here, only rule is that you can't use comp time on the
same week that you earned it. Comp time is also controlled just like OT is
for non-exempt staff, if you work it you better have a reason for it. The
last place I worked it was less formal, you just committed it to memory or a
notebook and took it when you needed to. Of course that was a bank and we
usually came and went as we wanted, no one cared if all the work was getting
done.

Subject: OT: Comp Time Question

I am looking for input regarding giving Comp Time.
We had a situation where our Exchange server crashed and 2 people worked
multiple nights til 1 or 2 am and in one case, overnight until all problems
were solved and the server was back online.

I am looking for info as to what other companies do for Comp Time.

Thanks in advance for your input.
