Could it be deleted item retention? Does that show in mailbox size, or
not? My failing memory says in 5.5 it did not, not sure about newer
versions.

On our Exchange 2000 server,the size of our information store (16GB)
(priv.edb=14GB + priv.stm=2GB) is much bigger than the total size of all
the mailboxes (approx=4GB). We ran Eseutil but recover only 1GB. What
can explain such (12GB) a huge difference?
