If you're going to run isinteg and eseutil, then the "current one" will most
certainly go down during the repair.

If I understand your plan, you're bringing up another server in the same
site and using the Move Mailbox process to transfer mailboxes from the
corrupt store to the new server's store. In that situation, after you've
moved all of the mailboxes the users won't be connecting into the old server
beyond the first time after their mailbox moved, in which case they'll get
redirected to the new server. Since everyone will be using the new server,
there isn't really a need to repair the corrupt store. You can blow it away,
have Exchange create a new empty store, and then move all of the mailboxes
back. This assumes that you've resolved the cause of the -1018 error. As
another post suggested, a call to PSS might not be a bad idea to guide you
through the process.

Subject: fixing 1018 error question

I want to run isinteg and eseutil on my current production exchange 5.5
server to fix 1018 errors (I know that there could be data loss...), however
what I have planned to do is to move all of the mailboxes over to a new
server before I work on the current server to ensure that everyone can
continue using email if the current one goes down during the repair.

If I move the mailboxes (hence all data is now on another server) will the
isinteg and eseutil still work on the first server, or will I have just
moved the corruption from one server to the other. I was under the
impression that 1018 corruption was probably a hardware issue, so I think
it should still work....

Any thoughts???

Ps. I promise to "do this" soon and quit asking questions about it, however
it is my first big Exchange project, and I want to make sure I do it right!

Thank you.

April
