Before leaping on to Outlook - have you done the http://servername/rpc test? On your local LAN browse to that address, where servername is your front-end server. You should be prompted for credentials. Enter valid information and if it is working correctly you should get error "403.2 - Forbidden: Read access denied" . If you get anything else then the proxy isn't working correctly.
On those registry entries... I have just looked a live production server. I don't have the entries with 1024 in them. The entries I have been making are shown below. Adjust the names and servers as appropriate.
