FWIW: I remember one version of Backup Exec, when I was restoring an
Exchange DB, I need to set the BE restore option "overwrite no matter
what" in order for it to restore the DB and log files. Otherwise it
would error out. And this was restoring to subdirectories that were
completely empty.

I need to practice an E2K3 restore to different hardware myself. Please
share what resolves your problems.

Good Luck,
Brent

Conversation: Recovery Server restore problem
Subject: Recovery Server restore problem

Exchange Box: Win2k3, all patches, Exchange Server 2k3 Tape Backup Box:
Win2k SP4 Recovery Server: Win2k3, same patches as Exchange box,
Exchange Server 2k3

I need to recover a deleted public folder. The retain deleted items
window has closed. The recovery server was created following the
Exchange 2000 Server Database Recovery whitepaper, and the Exchange
Server 2003 Disaster Recovery Planning Guide (New forest, same
organization name, same legacyExchangeDN stem, database names match,
hardware configuration matches). Dismounted the stores. Marked them to
be overwritten.

I loaded the tape, and selected the Public Information Store to restore.
Checked the last restore box, selected the recovery server, and entered
a location for temporary log files and patches. NTBackup responded with
"Unable to create log path..." No error messages were logged.

I have hit a wall attempting to troubleshoot this problem. Technet and
Google have not provided much help(Followed KB272591 and 262959, to no
avail). I have replicated the folder structure of the original Exchange
server and pointed the temporary log files there. Nope. Tried the
administrative share. Tried a different box. No good.

Help!, please.

Is the fact that I'm using a third box with a tape drive a possible
cause?
Should I use a 2k3 version of NTBackup?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Gregg Porter
