That is very odd. Even with a client that hasn't been configured for RPC/HTTP you should see some TCP/IP connections - which should be failing. Have you tried this internally? I don't like going straight to an external machine when I am setting it up. I prefer to get a local machine which I know works for TCP/IP connections and convert it to using HTTP. That way I can rule out any other problems with the system.
