What do you mean by "run an exchange program"? What you really need to do is build a an Exchange 2000 server, same SP level as original, same org name, same administrative group name, same name for the private and public information stores, same file paths for private and public information stores and their transaction logs. Then you can do an Exchange-aware restore from your Exchange-aware backup [1].
[1] you can do a non-Exchange-aware restore from a non-Exchange-aware backup if you want to (and if you have such backup), but I prefer Exchange-aware. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mark Condron Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 12:59 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Restoring exchange 2k to a different server All, Win2k SP4, Exchange 2K SP3 post hotfix. Due to having to wait six days for HP to deliver a RAID controller to one of our sattelite sites!! I am considering restoring the e-mail server (pub and priv IS and Logs) to a different server. The server name is different but if i install Ex2k to the level of service pack on the old server and configure it with all the same settings i.e. same drive letters for store, same connectors etc. I have a current backup (Verita BE V9) and it seems to be fine (I have restored other information from the tape.) So I can restore the IS to the different server. I then believe you can run an exchange program that will forklift the IS into the new config and then run the logs against the database to get it up to date. This will be the first time I have attempted this procedure and would be grateful of any pointers, I have also been told this is not for the faint hearted, is this true?
