Because of the nature of our business - we function much like an ISP - my management is very reluctant to implement, or even suggest, change for fear of political backlash.
I am looking for information, contacts, links, documentation, or anything thing else that would provide answers to what other organizations have done related to any of the following Are mailbox size limits used? If so what is the limit, is it consistent or based on individual user needs, and how is it enforced? Are limits placed on email size, and/or attachment size? Are oversized emails held for delivery after peak hours? Are there different limits placed on internal vs Internet email? Are there limits based on a maximum number of recipients per email? Is there a policy defining and/or prohibiting OUTGOING Spam email. Regarding SPAM I have seen previous messages on this list from last month, so I have some idea what anti-Spam software is in use. Is there a policy about inclusion of email addresses on company web pages, or any practice of replacing email address with web-based contact forms? Is there a policy about using business email addresses for newsgroups, or lists such as this? I am also interested in any stories or documentation about businesses that have changed their email domain solely, or in part, to resolve Spam issues. FYI We support about 1,100 users on a single Exchange 2000 server. These users are scattered over five states, and about 225 locations. These locations connect to our network via VPN, ISDN, RAS, or frame relay. While there are some Frac T sites, the majority are 64K. All Exchange users have a 90MB mailbox size limit, enforced only with 5 daily reminder messages. There are no limits on email or attachment size, after hours delivery, or recipients. We have no email policy. Email addresses are commonly included on company web pages. In just over one year we have gone from blocking less than 10,000 Spam emails per day to 50,000 or more, using GFI Mail Essentials. (A great product for the price, and one that has been consistently adding valuable new features.) Anything that might help in establishing common or standard business practices would be helpful, and greatly appreciated.
