Ok so I have run the setup again from the top... Guess what no change..
Should I make the W2k3 server a DC ? Would this help, or should I just
throw myself of the nearest cliff...
TIA

It shouldn't hurt anything to rerun ForestPrep and DomainPrep.

No, not the server or the groups.
If you go to ADSI Edit, do you see CN=Microsoft Exchange under Configuration
Container->CN=Configuration->CN=Services?

Do you see the Exchange service container in the Active Directory Sites and
Services MMC?
You should also be able to see it in ADSI Edit.

I honestly cannot remember it was so long ago, as for the Exchnage Server
Group, it is in the sers OU, have not moved any groups and the
Administrator Account is as its always been.
On my DC in AD there are not any Exchange tabs on the Users details ? Should
there be ?
Kind Regards

Is you Exchange servers group still in the Users OU or have you moved it
somehwere?
Have you moved any other built-in accounts (for example Administrator) or
groups to other Ous?
How did you do Forestprep? Were you asked to provide any credentials during
forestprep?

Subject: Exchange 2003 Setup Problem
Good day, new hear so bear with me...
Ok so we have a W2k Domain running in mixed mode, with Active Directory.
One exchange 5.5 server SP4, running on a W2k member server.
We have installed a new windows 2003 server, and then installed Exchange
2003 to the point of running the setup.exe to install exchange messaging.
Have run forest prep, Domain prep, and confirmed all logs are good.
When we actually run the setup all goes swimmingly until we are presented
with the Service Account details screen, the only field that is free to be
populated is the password, the Username and Domain is greyed out ?.
We enter the service account password (which is our domain Admin password)
but we get a message stating that the username and password must be valid ?
I have scoured the web for 4 days and found nothing remotely linked to this
except one article that mentions that you may have to change the site name
to match that of the directory name on the 5.5.server, I have tried this and
it does not make a difference ?.
Also in the one log it states that the Exchnage domain servers group does
not have the new exchange server in it, so I have even added it to this
group with no effect.
Any comments or suggestion gratefully received.
Kind Regards
Paul
