It's still a firewall, even if all you are doing is publishing OWA. Yes
we do that very thing, the server responds to one request and one
request only, all other traffic is ignored. www.isaserver.org was very
helpful to me in getting everything working correctly. Some great step
by step documents and an even better message board area.
When you are installing, just don't do any of the wizard stuff, you
original setup should be deny all, then you can add the OWA connector,
etc.
Have Fun

Conversation: OWA and ISA
Subject: OWA and ISA

Does anyone else use OWA on a stand alone ISA 2004 server that is not
configured as a Firewall. I am planning on just using ISA to publish
OWA.

We have Checkpoint firewalls and currently we redirect from Checkpoint
to OWA.

My understanding of publishing OWA through ISA is that I can publish
form based authentication directly from the ISA box, the communication
between ISA and FE OWA would be SSL only with a certificate agreement.
And I think that ISA understand OWA and is able to act as an external
URL scan type function.

It seems ISA as a standalone offers security improvements but most
implementations are with ISA as a firewall.

Experiences always appreciated.

Nathan
