I have a new user who can't POP his EX2K mailbox.
The error Outlook and other email programs (OLEX, Pegasus) give is that the
password is not valid or rejected, but I know the password is correct,
because the user can log in to the domain with the same password just fine.
Also POP is done internally, so there are no firewall issues and POP
protocol is enabled both on the server and on user's mailbox.

I'm really baffled here. I've tried everything: resetting the password,
forcing replication among DCs, but no luck.
The only thing that may contribute to this is that we have 2 DCs here and EX
may be talking to the one and not the other. Although when I check the
replication in ReplMon, I see that both have the latest changes.
I see that EX server has both DCs listed in its properties, but I cannot
force to use one over the other or remove one of them.
Could this be causing the problem and if so how can I fix it?

Thanks

Alex Alborzfard

Well, not necessarily "normal", but it does mean the workstations are
experiencing delays talking to the GC.

It is, yes. If this is normal, that's ok, I just thought it odd that
different workstations had different messages.

Is DC1.st-anne.org a GC? Then it makes sense.

Subject: Outlook trying to retrieve data from non MX

WinXP SP1 with Outlook 2003 in Exchange Cache Mode, Exchange 2003, 2003
functional forest/domain

Lately we've experienced some network slowness that I'm still trying to
troubleshoot but what we're getting is a popup saying Outlook is attempting
to retrieve data from the Exchange server Exh.st-anne.org. I can see that
as normal due to the network slowness but on some of the workstations rather
than saying it's trying to retrieve from the exchange server Exh.st-anne.org
it says it's trying to retrieve from one of the domain controllers
(DC1.st-anne.org). Is this normal? I checked DNS and have only the one MX
record pointing to the one Exchange server.
Tried searching google and MS but can't figure out a series of search terms
to give me any decent results.
