I wouldn't use one nic each. Whether with clustering or replication I
personally would advise having a dedicated link for interserver
communication, preferably not hooked up to the same switch/hub (a
crossover cable is in many ways the ideal). With clustering, losing the
server-server link can cause split-mind, where each node thinks it's the
owner (depending on the shared disk). With replication, you don't want
client-server bandwidth useage to interfere with the replication needs
(and vice/versa).

NIC's are cheap enough to make this a nobrainer.
