Ensure the alias on the Exchange Alias tab is renamed. This is what it used to do a lookup in the GAL when someone types in a partial name. Ensure the new and old style name are changed.
Best way to rename a list is to right click on it and choose rename, then go in and manually change the alias and e-mail address. A user on a direct MAPI connect or OWA will see the GAL change immediately. A user on RPC over HTTP or any other form that uses the OAB will not see it update until the OAB updates, which is once a day at like 2am by default. You can manually update it or schedule to update more often.
