Could you try using a forest trust and set the "Associated External
Account" permission pointing from domain2\username to domain1\mailbox?

That would essentially give two users rights to the mailbox, then use
the move tool and come back in and remove domain1\user from the
permissions? I don't know what that would do the "Self" user though.
Maybe someone else has a more elegant solution.

Subject: Mailbox move idea.

Domain consolidation. Two domains, same forest, separate trees not a
parent/child. Exch. 2003/W2K3.

Domain1 contains all the email boxes and accounts just those email
boxes. That domain is going away.
Domain2 now has an exchange server that is a member of that site.

Unfortunately, my predecessors gave users accounts in both domains.
About 800 of them.

So, domain1\John Doe has a mailbox in domain1. Same person has
domain2\John Doe for fileservers and the like, but no mailbox. I need to
eliminate one account and end up with the mailbox being moved to
domain2.

Domain2\John Doe has a boatload of complicated groups and permissions in
domain2. So deleting the domain2 account would require days of redoing
folder/group permissions.

So I am thinking about exmerging the mailboxes out, deleting the mailbox
and the associated account. Then create mailboxes in domain2, they would
have the same name as far as a pst is concerned....then Exmerge the
saved email back in?

Thoughts, ideas or alternate suggestions welcome. I have room for plenty
of downtime for these users since they are teachers and will be gone for
2 months.
