I used a Xerox Star! It had a mouse, a desktop, icons, all stuff that Jobs invented, didn't it? Apple sued Microsoft over that GUI. Was Apple even in existence then? One strong memory about the Star was the frequency of crashes. But it was definitely way ahead of its time.

I was an XNS administrator back when Xerox invented all the stuff that Apple, and then Microsoft, hijacked. I was able to do things on my nasty, clunky, slow old 8010 STAR that I still can't do with XP and the latest version of Orifice. So what? This is what I have to work with. I don't have any particular emotional attachment to it. There's something to be said for being well-versed in more than one, certainly, but simply bad-mouthing the dominant OS's and/or apps of the day is just going to make one look like a technoweenie. 'Back in MY day, we didn't have directory services. We WALKED our messages to the users. Uphill both ways. In the snow. Barefoot. Dodging snipers all the way.' ;-) _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
