What is the deleted item retention time set to? Try reducing it. It will speed up clearing the deleted items from the store.

My main IT Contact for this company and I, have seen this coming for a little while now - but because of that, we've been feverishly having the users delete all their junk e-mail, and emptying their deleted items folders, over the last several WEEKS. We KNOW for a fact, that when you add up all the user's mailboxes, it does NOT amount to 16GB. We have tried defrags, running the cleanup utilities, etc. in hopes of the actual file sizes on the hard drive to go down in size. Just no luck. The 2 file sizes are the following: Mail.edb - 6,564,488 Mail.stm - 10,227,720 We are running Win2K (latest SP) with Exchange 2000 sp3 (including the latest rollup). Also, we are presently limping along on the Registry Hack that temporarily allows for a 17GB maximum file size, in order for the Mail Store to mount and continue running. Has anybody seen this problem before? We want to take advantage of the time we have, while the Mail Store continues to run, in order to start trimming this file size down.
