Of course all exchange admins would subscribe this mailing list to a public
folder and choose the nomail option for their personal subscription.. Yeah
right!

Hi,
I am currently out of the office. I am in Melbourne on business until Friday
October 28. I can be reached via email until then. After that I'll be on a
short vacation and probably not checking email. I will be back in the office on
Monday November 7.
For internal IT related matters for the xxxxxxxxxxxxx office please use the
xxxxxxxxxxxxx Help Desk System. For urgent and external IT related matters
please email xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Business Systems Manager at: [EMAIL

Thanks,

The only risky thing about OoO is the content people put in their OoO and
potential spam target confirmation.
There is no mail loop issues etc.
Probably at the moment people could put a default rule in place to reply for
all messages (which could cause a mail loop).
At least using OoO would limit the dumb behaviour mentioned above.
Using an anti spam gateway would limit the spam messages that would get through
for the OoO to trigger on. Even if you just tagged the spam with [SPAM] the
rules in OoO could be customised to accommodate not replying to tagged spam.

Hoping to pick the lists wisdom!

Every so often I get leaned on to enable external Out of Office.

I've held off so far because of stories of mail loops and stores filling up,
it's not a standard mail feature and other companies manage etc.

I've been asked about it again and I'm struggling to come up with a factual
reason not to do it other than, well, things that sound like paranoia and that
I've never heard of actually happening (ok maybe once).

So some questions:

Current reasons not to do it?
If we do, any guidelines to issue staff on how to setup rules to NOT reply to
spam/mailing lists etc?
Any benefits/significant changes in OoO when we move to Exchange 2003?

cheers,
Paul
