Before my time <LOL>, brother that IS my time. <Grin> Was what part of it easier? The Banyan Directory worked better (more automated less work) than what we have today with Exchange 2003. As far as having 25 people of the same name, the SMTP or true internet addresses were a little more challenging although that was handled by Incognito Software's SMTP software not Banyan.
I have worked on the Marine Corps LAN as a Marine, then for EDS on the NMCI (Navy Marine Corps Intranet) migration project. Now working for the USAF here and I can tell you that you would be very surprised to find that there is still A LOT of Banyan fielded around the world. The company died a miserable death back in 2000. Here we are 5 years later and the software is still running strong in the OL (Outlying fields) where we have little opportunity for maintenance. MY TIME - I helped Install and run the Marine Corps first LAN in 1984 and "yes Virginia" it was a BANYAN LAN back then called Banyan Network Services even came with an IBM XT server called BNS v1.0... Of course the Octopussy cables we had to connect back then were much heavier, less reliable and a general pain in the zorch! Of course we also installed the first Satellite feed back from Japan to the US (yes data LAN via satellite) back in 1988... Oh and lest we forget installing Banyan Servers in TANKS, yes I said TANKS during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. /Working on a FED Holiday rant OFF Ok sorry I won't mention Banyan again. <Grin> Semper Fidelis, /ALE Eddie Albert, AFRPA/CIO-IT, Net Deity & Serf OFC (703) 696 - 5509 | CEL (703) 517-3855 [EMAIL PROTECTED] > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of Ed Crowley [MVP] > Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 12:12 PM > To: Exchange Discussions > Subject: RE: Similar Names > > Was that stuff easier when you were on Banyan?
