Ed, thanks for the response. I went ahead and used the info from Microsoft's Exchange 2000 Server Database Recovery (which they reference if you need to restore public folders in 2003), specifically the alternate server recovery section. I brought up a new domain controller in a new forest and installed Exchange 2003. I didn't have any problems with those instructions, with one exception. It tells you to "Join the newly created administrative group when you are prompted to do so during Setup". When I ran setup at this stage, the only "join" I saw was to an existing server, which didn't seem right (and wouldn't work anyway). I finally proceeded with a new install and entered the same organization name, etc. In our case, we use Tivoli for backup, so I installed that agent as well.
The problem I now have is that I am not able to actually restore the database. I am getting the following errors in the Event Log: 1) Failed to find a database to restore to from the Microsoft Active Directory. Storage Group specified on the backup media is f55e446f-29e5-4f24-8442-2f9ef4123866. Database specified on backup media is Public Folder Store (SRV-HERMES), error is 0xc7fe1f46. (EventID 9635) 2) Failed to find a database to restore to from the Microsoft Active Directory. Storage Group specified on the backup media is f55e446f-29e5-4f24-8442-2f9ef4123866. Database specified on backup media is Public Folder Store (SRV-HERMES), error is 0xc7fe1f46. (EventID 904) I found info from Microsoft on the first error, which had me set a registry key for "Recovery SG Override", but this did not help. At this point, I am not sure if I goofed up on the join part or I have something else wrong. I have contacted IBM/Tivoli for support, but if anybody knows how to fix my current problem, I would love to hear it. All you really need to do is bring up a new domain controller in your production domain, remove it, take it to your off-network lab, bring up DNS and seize the roles and you have a clone domain. Then you can install Exchange and restore. Of course, when you're done, don't put that DC back on your production net--wipe it clean! Public folders are set to be on one server only (no replication). An incorrectly applied policy wiped out information in several public folders that was older than a certain date and needs to be recovered. Unfortunately, this was not discovered timely enough that we can just restore (overwrite) the public information store. The same policy had deleted item retention on these folders, but nothing shows up when I try recover deleted items on the public fodlers (have ownership permissions, etc). ... _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
