Just make a copy the file before running ESEUTIL instead of fooling around
with command-line switches.

Actually 2 articles: KB 328804 & 192185. How long should this take?

Alex,

Not sure which article you are reading about the /p switch. The only /p I
know of is used in hard recovery operations.

As for the location of the rebuilt db. Any drive with enough space would do
the trick. If you use a local drive it would be faster than using a network
drive. I try to make sure I have twice the space of the db. Ie if the db
is 10GB have 20GB free.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Nate!
Microsoft article says to use /p switch to preserve the old database (in
case I want to revert to it) and that it would reduce the defrag time.
Do you recommend using it? If so, where can the new rebuilt database be
stored at? On the same EX server or any other server? Then how would it be
mounted in EX?

The only thing I can say is make sure you have either a copy or good backup
of the db before AND after you run the defrag.

Hailz.

The priv.edb has hit the 16GB limit, so I'm Exmerging some large mailboxes
and then I'll do an offline defrag (ESEUTIL /D). The client's server is an
EX2K STD, SP3.
If everybody's logged off their mailboxes, are there any gotchas I should
look out for?
