Clarification: Brightmail Premium versus SMS with BrightMail( Not Premium )
SMS with BrightMail( Not Premium ), Basically sucks. You must make SPAM rules. We had to upgrade to Premium to reduce the time spent making rules. SMS with Brightmail Premium, Symantec provides update definitions. New definitions load every hour during a weekday work hours, less often during the rest of the day. The SPAM comes through in waves as the techniques inside the e-mail themselves change. You can have up to a two week lag in the technique changes before BrightMail starts dropping out the new SPAM techniques. Most of the time, waves last from one to four days. Right now, Symantec has caught up to the current SPAM techniques and we are doing OK. Some SPAM goes through marked as such, to our OL2003 clients and have a rule to filter "[SPAM]" messages out. How much SPAM will your user base tolerate ( And many bad habits they have? )? From what I can glean from the trade magazines and our quoting process, in comparasion: BrightMail is pricey, but middle of the road performance. Users will get unmarked SPAM with BrightMail Premium. Depending on a current wave, we average ( for our worst users, i.e. people who have e-mail address on the internet somewhere or sign up for every contest, etc.. ) about 8 to 10 a day. Current BrightMail Stats. 84% of our mail volume is detected SPAM. We are currently down on overall SPAM volume right now. The Christmas rush was horrible. I have other issues with SMS, that if your curious about, I will share with you. I'll be back on Monday. Have a great weekend. It is time for us to update our Exchange e-mail anti-virus protection and I wondered if I should add the Symantec Brightmail to the mix as a combo. It appears to be under $20 per user for the combo. We are a private, non-profit and the bottom line is always important, but the top folks are sick and tired of spam (aren't we all?) and I thought I could get this one by easily. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To subscribe: http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
