In subfolders perhaps but if you have that many e-mails in your Inbox I think
you may have some personal performance problems. :-) I've become convinced
that having thousands of items in an Inbox (or even hundreds in most cases) is
a prescription for inefficiency and mistakes.

I used to be that person myself, but I decided to give one of the organizing
systems a try and it really made a difference. At the moment I have 20 items
in my Inbox but shortly I'll have that pared back down to the usual 2-3 items.

Everything else gets dealt with, delegated, deleted, flagged and/or filed.

I personally thing 1,000 is a little low. I've got users with 2-3k e-mails per
folder and no performance issues. 8,000 is rather excessive, and obvious
causing a problem.

It's ultimately going to depend on everyone's specific hardware as to where the
line needs to be drawn.

No more than about 1,000 for the main folders.

There is an Exchange Team blog on this subject.

Subject: E Mails per folder

SBS server 2000 on a Dell 4600 Dual Xeons 1 G/B running RAID 5 Exchange server
2000 SP 3

I have 5 users and one of my users is running slow.

They have about 8,000 e-mails in the Inbox; (that is way to much)

How much e-mails should be in the inbox, if so I will set up mail folders for
each year, but how mail should I place in each folder

Thanks
