Did this just start happening for people? How long have you had the server / setup in place? Is the exchange server on the same LAN as your users? What is the connection speed from your users to your exchange server? How's about the hardware specs of your server (disks, ram, processor, network)? Is it multi-functioned (sbs) , or running other services such as a being your file server, web server, etc ...?
I could find the exact specs of Exchange Server, but I know it is a high-end unit with huge drive capacity and RAM only running Exchange and backup at night. Many of our users are connected at giga-bit speed. But we also have Voice-over IP now. The latest user has a ton of email, but she is the supervisor of our department and does not follow advice well. We did just upgrade anti-virus from 9.0 to 10.0 but the problem had appeared on other pc's before that. It does seem like it is just happening in the morning when we start, so it could be a traffic issue. The company that set up the Exchange Server can not figure out our random problems with receiving Yahoo mail either. Thanks for giving me some ideas. Bill Kuhl I'd think either Outlook is "waiting / processing", meaning it really isn't hung, it is just processing the mailbox to open, or outlook is waiting for a response from the server. Does this person have a lot of mail items in their inbox? Does the same thing happen if you setup a profile for this person (identical to how it is now on their pc) on your computer and have them try to open it there? You might try disabling the anti-virus software on the client before opening outlook to see if that is part of the problem. I would highly recommend contacting the company that set this up, presuming they'll have more knowledge about the configuration. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bill Kuhl Sent: Friday, July 07, 2006 9:31 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Outlook 2003 Startup Problems Symantec Anti-virus 10.1 Exchange 2003, Windows XP Professional Seems like it is happening mainly when they start up at first logon. The person that just started having problems has a huge amount of email. Not sure of the details on how we connect to the Exchange Server, another company set this up. We have a domain with around 100 users. Are you using client-side antivirus software? If so, what product & version. Does this happen after a fresh boot / logon or after someone has left for the day and left their machine on and locked but closed out of Outlook ... Or something else? Does this happen to you, ever? What is the OS version / patch level? How many people is this happening to? Does it happen at a certain time of the day? What version of Exchange are you using? How are users connecting to your mail server? Where are your DCs / GCs in relation to your Exchange server? What kind of connectivity do you have to your exchange server? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bill Kuhl Sent: Friday, July 07, 2006 8:47 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Outlook 2003 Startup Problems Some users in our organization seem to have trouble starting up Outlook 2003 at times. The latest person to have this issue just had the Office 2003 SP2 update. When there is a problem, Outlook is running twice in Task Manager. Are there any fixes for this?
