It's not too hard, If you can run both of them at the same time, setup
your new DNS records (give your new MX a lower score) for the new
address and give it time to roll over. Once you have gotten them done,
you can turn off the old interface and make sure you are working, and
then remove the old MX and A records. We have done it a few times like
this with no problems, both for ISP changes, and just because we wanted
to change our outside address subnet. Usually we just leave up the old
interface for 7-10 days, then disable it and see what happens.

Conversation: Changing the IP address on my front end server
Subject: Changing the IP address on my front end server

Hi all

I have a front end server that is currently handling my SMTP traffic to
the internet and OWA. We're switching ISPs so I have to change the IP
address of the server. Is there a white paper that covers this? Does
anyone have any practical experience they can share?

Thanks

Russ
