Also, make sure you do the manual check from each SMTP server that you have. If you're not doing any type of NATing on your network for those servers (or if you are, but the external address differs from each one), then perhaps one of them got on an RBL.

If not, when the error occurs, try running through a telnet session to the receiving end's SMTP server. If you receive the same message when doing it manually, then the receiving end is having some type of problem. Most common problems on the receiving end is some type of anti-spam problem or the inability to verify the recipients in their e-mail system. You can setup Sendmail and other *nix based SMTP daemons to do LDAP/SMTP verifications before accepting e-mail, so maybe something like that is broke. Just some guesses off the top of my head..
