Xtra.co.nz is the main isp in nz. For the past few weeks they have had horrendous problems with their email.
A lot of domains in NZ use xtra as their email service provider. Check each domain you are having problems with and their mx records are likely to refer to xtras..... Having said that , the error you have reported indicates a DNS error at your end? Xtra has two mx records terminator and alien that round robin to multiple mail server gateways. Have you tried to NSLOOKUP the MX records of the target domains from the console of your Exchange server? How about comparing your NSLOOKUP results with those from www.dnsreport.com?
