I know, but not all of them do. I've also found that historically,
vendors who specialize in particular type of product have a better
solution then those who cover many product ranges. That isn't always
true, but it often is.

Many archiving vendors have gold status with Microsoft (not just
Mimosa).
That was just kool-aid you drank ;)

HP, Quest, Orchestria come to mind for instance

Not likely. Mimosa is a full archival solution, not just DR. It just
so happens that the way they chose to do things, and their MS Gold
Partnership offers them the ability to serve up DR with your purchase,
and in a way that is far superior to any other product we looked at.

I think MS will put Mimosa out of business with Exchange 2007 log
shipping :)

Since we have Mimosa, I can tell you how that works. Not sure if you
looked at it, but we looked at most of the products in question, and
chose Mimosa over them all. It was one of the more expensive products,
even with the good deal we got, but we felt it was worth it.

Mimosa maintains Exchange format stores. It keeps them updated by
copying the transaction logs from the live stores, and replaying them
into the Mimosa stores.

Mimosa is working with Microsoft (they are a gold partner) on the
ability for you to actually be able to mount the Mimosa stores, directly
into Exchange, in the event of a DR situations. Right now you cannot do
this, but the capability to do it is there because they are using
Exchange stores, and not a proprietary format.

Have been evaluating a few products, I quite like Aftermail though I
found an indicative cost for Enterprise Vault to be a lot cheaper than
first thought. The problem I've found with Enterprise Vault is I cant
seem to find an evalution version anywhere?

Can you give me a quick rundown as to how well it performs? How does it
work exactly, does it require a journelling account or will it go
through mailboxes individually and replicate there contents? Does it
require a SQL database or does it have its own and does it store
attachments out to files or in the datbase? Does it interface directly
into exchange via MAPI or does it only connect through POP/IMAP?

So many questions I could answer if I couls just get hold of an
evaluation copy, based on the cost I would favour Symantec anyway as I
like a lot of products taken from Veritas.

Cheers.

We looked at a bunch and came back to the conclusion that we should get
the former KVS, now Symantec Enterprise Vault. It has all the features
that we need.

I think Aftermail is less expensive though.
