Maybe his way will work (I have great respect for McBee) but the way I
always recommended doing it is to clone a DC and then install Exchange using
the setup /DisasterRecovery switch.

No, I followed Jim McBee's guidelines for setting up a recovery server:

Install O/S
Run DCPromo and create new AD
Run E2K in forest prep mode
Everything else was pretty much default (we only had 1 priv store) except to
change Mailbox Store OU to match live E2K.
Partitions set up same as live server (C=prg files; E=store; F=logs) Yes &
yes

Funny, I saw a post from a "Paul" there with almost the exact same
question--it comes up when googling your error code.

Did you do this recovery off-network by cloning or building a new domain
controller? Is the recovery server name identical to the original? On your
recovery server are the drive and path settings identical to the source?
Did you delete the database and log files before restoring?

Backup recovery s/w: Symantec Backup Exec v11d using Exchange Agent Windows
2000, Exchange 2000

One of our VP's deleted a bunch of emails from his Inbox. He hard deleted
them and, even with the DumpsterAlwaysOn reghack, I can't recover them.

I had previously built an Exchange recovery server following Jim McBee's
steps in Exchange 2000 Server 24 Seven.

I recovered the priv1.edb, priv1.stm and log to the recovery server. The
server has drives and partitions the same as Live server and I recovered the
above files to the same locations on the recovery server.

Unfortunately, I cannot get the store to mount properly. I have tried the
eseutil /cc command and it appears to be working, but then halts with error
#939586621.
I also tried eseutil /cm to view the contents of the restore.env per q253914
but it returns the same error.

I also tried other eseutil switches but no luck. I'm at a loss as to where
to proceed from here.
