I've used both and they both work great. The Quest product is a little sexier but they both accomplish the same task.

I've found it to be a great tool for this sort of scenario, when you need to pull just one mailbox from a backup. Makes it very painless and simple, much quicker than trying to go through the recovery server scenario. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny to me. It lets you browse through a backup, find one mailbox, and create a .pst from it. You choose the level of granularity - whole mailbox, just one subfolder, particular emails, etc. It's saved my behind a couple of times. I also use it to periodically test my backups, make sure they're backing up what I think they are. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chinnery, Paul Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2008 2:04 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: restore to recovery server Man, I'd love to upgrade. Our last major upgrade was in 2002 when we went to E2K and Win2K from NT. I don't think we'll be going to E2007 for at least two more years. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Ed Crowley Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2008 1:55 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: restore to recovery server One more thing. This would be a whole lot easier for you if you had Exchange 2003, which supports recovery storage groups. Just a thought. He hard deleted them and, even with the DumpsterAlwaysOn reghack, I can't recover them. I had previously built an Exchange recovery server following Jim McBee's steps in Exchange 2000 Server 24 Seven. I recovered the priv1.edb, priv1.stm and log to the recovery server. The server has drives and partitions the same as Live server and I recovered the above files to the same locations on the recovery server. Unfortunately, I cannot get the store to mount properly. I have tried the eseutil /cc command and it appears to be working, but then halts with error #939586621. I also tried eseutil /cm to view the contents of the restore.env per q253914 but it returns the same error. I also tried other eseutil switches but no luck. I'm at a loss as to where to proceed from here.
