Duh! I was mocking those who never test their backups. All who qualify,
raise your hands!

How do you know the backups work until they're tested...? You're not just
relying on the "Job Completed Successfully", are you?

Backup Exec will only backup what you have selected (or you think you have
selected). If, when the time comes, you try to restore something that isn't
there because you misunderstood how Backup Exec works, or forgot to select
something, or didn't know it was required, or Backup Exec doesn't behave the
same way as it did in earlier versions, you can't then say to the company
directors/owners/customers when the brown stuff hits the fan and say: 'It's
not called Restore Exec, ya know!!'

Backups are only good if you can prove they are restorable. Otherwise it's
like never opening up a parachute to see if there are any holes in it...

Why? It's called "Backup Exec", not "Restore Exec"!

But that's only half the picture! If you can fully restore from a BE 12
then you can say it is fine. Until then, one must reserve judgement.

BE11d v7170 is up to SP2 with several hotfixes. 11d is a mature product
with a lot of the support issues having been addressed. BE12 is still wet
behind the ears, and in my opinion, it needs to prove it can stand up before
you can say it runs.

I'm considering upgrading from Backup Exec 10d to version 12. I would be
backing up Exchange 2003, Server 2003 and Server 2008. Have any of you
tried V12 and has it worked OK for you? Are there known issues?
Thanks for your comments.

Curt
