what version of Exchange/IMF are you using, Brett? I tried IMF a few years ago on 2k/03 and found it a bit too troublesome. Has the Exchange 07 IMF made great improvements?

I Personally Love IMF.

However Out of the box it is missing a lot of features. I purchased IMF
Tune 4.0 which is a great add-on. This tool turns IMF into a full blown
SPAM solution. There are a lot of tricks to getting IMF to work
correctly for you. It requires Reg Edits just to get updates. Once you
do so you will enjoy IMF Definition Updates from MS quite frequently.

I also use the SPAMHAUS ZEN Blocklist to bounce all traffic from known
spammers, as my first line of defense. Then I process all other email
through IMF with my own custom IMF Tune 4.0 Rules. There is really no
spam that gets through all of this simple protection. We maybe get one
or two crafty pieces of spam a day now, and when I find them I dissect
them and make a rule to block it forever.

I also have Trend Micro AV for Exchange running with spam protection.
However their SPAM protection is worthless so I turned it off.

Folks,

We are contemplating moving back to an in-house anti-SPAM solution after
being with an outsourced solution for a couple of years. What is your
opinion of the built-in Exchange 2003 SP2 IMF? Or, the Symantec Mail
Security for Microsoft Exchange extra-cost solution?

My own vote is for an appliance like Barracuda or IronPort, but the bean
counters want to know about all the possible solutions.
