My gut says video issue - especially since moving the window makes it
visible again.  It sounds familiar to issues where [typically] on-board
video is underpowered and cannot handle displaying so many objects
simultaneously.  It's been some years since I've personally experienced the
issue, but IIRC it would particularly happen when certain apps were open
that listed lots of items/objects.
