I did change the password.  Would that effect would changing the password
have on downloading pattern files?  The account that is running scanmail has
"Act as part of the OS" and "log on as a service" and has "admin" rights to
Exchange.

You go through a proxy?  What account is running scanmail - did the password

I have tried to configure it to update from the ScanMail site.  But when I
hit "Update Now" it just sits and times out.  It use to work...all of a
sudden it just stopped updating.

I have internet connection, we definitely don't have a slow connection (t3).
I tried downloading the pattern file stopped all the services and placed it
in the C:\program files\trend\patterns.  Started all the services and it did
not recognize the new pattern file.  Did I do something wrong?  or miss a
step?

Can you download the pattern file and manually update your server?
