Hi Scott:

We ran the move server wizard on 3 servers in June using the SP4 version of
the Wizard.  We moved an Exchange 5.5 organization into an existing one due
to a company acquisition.  Definitely read the documentation / Readme file
that came with the wizard b/c it was very good and basically laid out the
most common issues both client and server side.

Since we ran this to bring another organization into our own (not in the
same org like yours looks to be), not all this may apply, but thought I'd
reply anyway.

Regarding profiles - yes they will need to be re-created (or at least go
into the Cntrl Panel, Mail icon to take out the name and add it back in).
The server based Rules will be re-created after reopening the profile, but
it will not recreate shortcuts, *.pst locations, additional mailboxes, etc.
Because of the number of users we had, we used a 3rd party utility called
"Profile Maker" that modified the existing profile so you don't lose this
info and you can use it via logon script.  This was cheap and caused less
headache in comparison to the number of users we had.  There's also a MS
free utility that can create profiles automatically based on their logon ID.
So if their logon ID matches their alias name you can do this via logon
script.  As another FYI:  after the wizard, a user must open their calendar
in order for their colleagues to see the free/busy info. 

As far as the connectors, when you run the wizard it will tell you which
connectors you have to remove in order to run the wizard (it won't let you
continue without it).  You have to remove the IMC if it's on the server
you're performing the wizard on and I think we had to remove the site
connectors too if I remember correctly.  The documentation was good on this.
And it may make a difference due to the fact we had 2 diff. organizations.

Also, pay attention to the SMTP addresses in the documentation as well.   It
will automatically take on the @domainname that you use in the organization
you're moving it to.  

In general - the Exchange server stuff went easy and it was very
straightforward if you read everything in the documentation.  The biggest
pain was the client side.  As always, do some exports of your directory,
document all your current settings, and be sure your backups are
successful!!

I will performing my first Move Server Wizard (multi-server site to
multi-server site)in the next month or so and I have a couple questions.  I
was reading some TechNet docs and one of them specifically talks about
moving from site to site.  The author says that the client won't have to
recreate their profile because the server name isn't changing.  But in my
lab tests this was not the case; Outlook was unable to connect and gave some
warning about the mailbox being unavailable.  I redid the Check Name in the
profile and then it was fine, but it still required manual intervention.  I
read in another doc somewhere that you WOULD have to recreate the profile.
Does anyone know for sure?

Also, the same TechNet article recommends removing the Site and DR
connectors.  I don't want to do that because then I would lose all of my
inter-site members in each DL, not to mention lots of NDRs, etc.  But I read
another article that said to leave the connectors intact (but obviously not
hosted on the server being moved).  My lab tests worked fine with the
connectors left in place.  Why would he be recommending to do that in the
first place?
