Exchange isn't the proper tool to send mass mail's like a List Server,
however it can handle'it.

Preposition: The message as a small size, 2K for example -if smaller even
better.

Caution: Review all the e-mail adresses in your SQl, to be sure they are
valid!!! Or you get a lot of NDR's...

Make a script (in a outlook basis):
-built the subject
-built the body of the massage
-format the message (html, rtf, or wahtever)
Connect to SQL server
Open the recordset
Do Until Recorset.EOF
-set the subject
-set the body
-set the format
-verify and set other options you need
-Set the recipient getting it in the SQL database field
-set the kind of recipient (To;Cc;Bcc)
-recipients.resolve
-send it.
recordset.movenext
Loop

Run the script under a mailbox "near" or in the IMC Server, if not possible
in a Server in the same Site as IMC. Like this you will not affect the other
server's gateways or with another words you will not affect the Internal
usage of Exchange.

With this process in a "lower" (266 Mhz with 512 Mb RAM) machine the script
may take aroud 3 - 4 hours to delivery 30K msg, during the work time (it is
better during a period of a lower use of Exchange: at night) but the IMC
doesn't complain at all, there is only a "duzen" messages going trought per
second...

This process with exchange isn't to do periodicaly or to handle urgent
messages! But it works fine.

We had done'it a 4-6 times since early year 2k until April 01 (as i recall)
and it goes weel.

It looks like I was wrong about that.
But I still believe Lyris would be the best move. Or outsource it.

Brent,

Exchange can deal with this no problem. One of our customers Dual PII
266, 512MB RAM box handles about 80,000 mails per day and doesn't even
raise a sweat.

You could certainly write a small batch of code to handle this, but
exchange isn't really the best solution. Look into one of the mailing
list servers like lyris, as they are better suited to this role.

Glenn
