This may be late, but we have had similar problems in the past, and it was a corrupt message in the MTA. The message would keep magically appearing and causing the same problem. To solve it, we deleted all instances of that message from the Sender, and no more duplicates. When I say duplicates, I mean the recipient was getting 4 messages multiple times, until he had over 2900 message of these 4 messages. It was fun cleaning up that mailbox before the User got in the next morning. He would have freaked if he opened his mailbox to 2900 messages.
