It is a variety of messages... and never the same one. And our numbers never get near that high... I think the highest was 44 or something like that.

The message would keep magically appearing and causing the same problem. To solve it, we deleted all instances of that message from the Sender, and no more duplicates. When I say duplicates, I mean the recipient was getting 4 messages multiple times, until he had over 2900 message of these 4 messages. It was fun cleaning up that mailbox before the User got in the next morning. He would have freaked if he opened his mailbox to 2900 messages.
