Bubbleboy is the only HTML email virus that I know of off the top of my head, but I think there was one more recently.
In theory, its possible to have an HTML message be self-tracking, so to speak. Its possible to embed something that allows for a centralized log of who's reading the email, albeit a very limited amount of information, but it is possible.
