Hear hear!
If you are serious about protecting a network you need multiple layers of
protection that don't have a single common point of failiure. In addition to
the different scan engines on the exchange servers, this is why I like
products like mimesweeper so much on the SMTP gateway - in addition to
mimesweeper's own ability to plug in virus scanners, it also filters out 95%
of the email viruses and worms that hit us by filtering out double
extensions (xxx.jpg.vbs and the like) and other similar obvious stuff.
