I refuse to limit my comments only to the relevant ones... It breaks my thought process.
Yes, you can do newsgroups in Exchange. They can be accessible via a newsreader (e.g. OE), Outlook or the web via OWA. One could write a custom interface to it, in fact Microsoft has written a custom web based NNTP interface for the microsoft.com website. There are also a number of free[1] or low cost packages out there which provide some level of NNTP integration. There is an NNTP hack for vBulletin for example. Things such as eRoom or Groove (among others) are also interesting methods for collaboration. What I would suggest is that you gather requirements from a number of folks, including those who have specifically asked for this functionality. Ask them to rank what is most important to them in terms of features, and what would be nice in terms of optional ones. Find out what the goals are of this type of collaboration. Then ask them how much they're willing to pay (from a budgetary standpoint) to make it happen. As an Admin, facilitating the business of doing business is certainly a road we want to go down, but you're right to be looking for a roadmap before beginning the journey. [1] As in beer.
