Additional question:

What about moving the System Mailbox? Same procedure as moving users
mailboxes?

Thanks,
Fred

Ok,

I've got Enterprise.

I moved my mailbox, however there was a significant lag before I could
log back on, even after the 1007 event.

I found the counter, but I may not have enough traffic to notice the
difference. I've only got 8 users on this box at present and most of
those are on vacation :) Any more info you can give me on this process.
I've been aware of the PM for years but I've never had the need to get
to know it better.

Know of any way to speed up the process of AD synchronization? In NT
there was ye ole "Synchronize Entire Domain" command.

Huge thanks,
Fred

1) Check your application event logs - there will be either a 1216
event (Standard) or 1217 (Enterprise) on startup.

2) There's a counter for the Single Instance Storage Ration in
Performance Monitor under the IS performance object counters.

3) Users can be moved while logged into the server; they'll experience
a service interruption, the length of which depends upon the size of
their mailbox. If their mailbox is less than 50MB in size, it should be
very brief.

4) A 1006 event will be logged in the Application log after a mailbox
is successfully moved to another database or server.

You seem quick. :) Keep asking smart questions.

Missy

Sounds good. But I have some questions:

1) How can I verify that I'm running the Enterprise version?

2) How can I check the SIS ratio?

3) Can I do this while users are using the system, or does everyone
need to be off?

4) How do I verify that I've completed the move?

If you can't tell, I'm new to Exchange but I'm learning really quick :)

Thanks in Advance,
Fred

I wouldn't run eseutil unless it was my only choice.

IIf you're running the Enterprise version of Exchange, it's simplest to
create a new private store and move the mailboxes to the new store; the
database will then hold "fresh" copies of all of the data. If you're
running the Standard version of Exchange 2000, you'd need to add another
server to the site for the mailboxes to move to.

One thing that I think would be interesting is if you check the SIS
ratio before and after the mailbox moves; there's some question to how
SIS is retained in such moves these days.

Good luck,

Hi All,

Whilst troubleshooting my NetBackup for Exchange, I revealed database
issues on my server. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this w/o
the backup it suggests?

Currently I only have 8 users on this box and all use it daily with
success. The Veritas tech suggested that I run the eseutil's and export
all the mailboxes to a new Information Store.

Thanks in Advance and I hope you holiday's are happy :)

Fred
