Hi Vanish,

You have some choices...
(Q143235)

Your first choice is to try a soft recovery. /r switch
eseutil /r /ispriv or ispub
(sometimes it works... this may return it to consistent state .)
It's supposed to result in no data loss.

Is this doesn't work then you can try a hard recovery.
This can/does result in dataloss... so make sure you have a complete backup
of the exchange directory and logs... in it's non-consistent state... before
you start to do anything.

eseutil /p /ispriv

You have a nice warning and it can take an absolute age to run... you can
see a (DOS) status bar running... giving you some indication of how long it
will take. It's a bit misleading as it can stop for ages and not move on the
percentage indicator (making you think it's crashed... but it hasn't)

Now you have to run the isinteg -pri -fix -test alltests.
This again can last an absolute age... and seems to stop.
And you are supposed to run it until all warnings and fixes stop appearing.
In reality... if the errors appear for more than 3/4 attempts then stop
that's good enough!

Then you have to defrag the database... now this needs 110 percent of the
total size of the edb database.
Also it defaults to making a temp defrag file on the root of exchange/bin
directory.

So you need to run it stating where you want to put the temp defrag file.
(Making sure you have the space... otherwise it will just stop and burn!)
See Q192185

(I've seen a 10 gig PRIV edb file be reduced to a 5 gig edb file after
running /d.)
With users reporting large losses in emails/attachments etc.

This all takes a very long time (depending on your edb sizes >10GB = long
time) So allow at least a whole day and evening to run these tests/recovery.

After that... you should be able to run the isinteg -patch and then start
the information store...
Check to see if it stays started... fingers crossed.
Wait for the telephone from users to moan about emails that they've
lost!!!!!!

I'm not sure if there are other ways of recovering the data from the edb
files... this is the only way I know/ have tried.
