Looks like you've got some reading to do. Start with the Exchange 5.5 DR Whitepaper: http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/techinfo/administration/55/BackupRestore.a sp
Then go through the Exchange 5.5 to 2000 upgrade guide: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/TechNet/prodtechn ol/exchange/deploy/depovg/e2kguide.asp These two resources should give you ample amount of information on how to recover your 5.5 databases and how to go to Exchange 2000 after you're done. Question about the recovery of Exchange 5.5 databases, you said you have the EDB files. Were these part of an offline backup or just the EDB files that happen to be on the server when it died? If they are not offline backups, they are most probably in an inconsistent state. You'll need to first bring them to a consistent state before you can attempt the recovery. All of this is outlined in the DR whitepaper.
