Looking for help using Outlook Express (POP3 or IMAP) and checking the box "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" on the servers tab. This doesn't work and you get
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'webmail.mail.com, Server: 'webmail.mnsu.edu', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F Now we have and SSL certificate installed on the OWA box and setup for POP3 and IMAP. In fact, on Outlook Express I can unselect "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" and on the advanced tab select "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" and this works fine. The password and the entire session is encrypted - even the userid/password authentication. The issue is with only encrypting the Authentication portion since in the wizard for setting up the mail account the check box is there for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" and this is what most people will check by default. This wants to use SASL over port 110, but once again, this authentication gets rejected. Can anyone help?
