Our experience with HW for any email server has been : Ram,(the more the
better) Fast drives(SCSI raids) and good backup. CPU's being on the low
side!

Amount of users is one thing, but storage and message/time is what you
should be concerned with. Go to MS's Exchange site they have tools/papers to
guide you.

Just go to 2000 and be happy.
