Previously, the unix and vms boxes were able to send email to other unix and vms boxes that were loaded with sendmail and teamlinks. At least on the unix side, they were then able to parse the messages and run scripts against the emails. When we reconfigured the mail servers to point to the exchange IMS, email from the unix and vms nodes were rejected and an NDR came back saying the address they were sending to did not exist. On the exchange side we had the following setup on our IMS' routing tab:
Sent To: CLAMERICAS.COM Route To: <inbound> The unix boxes would send their email to an address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From what I have read so far, when this email is received by the IMS, it tries to route the mail to a mailbox with the server50.clamericas.com SMTP address. Since it doesn't exist on exchange, it sends back an NDR saying so. What's worse is that the From address of these messages are set to [EMAIL PROTECTED] so they are effectively lost in exchange. I'm pretty sure that one of the steps I have to do to return the functionality the unix and vms boxes had before was to set the IMS routing tab to: Send To: #CLAMERICAS.COM Route To: <inbound> This would ensure that only addresses with CLAMERICAS.COM are properly sent to an exchange mailbox. What do I do about the *.clamericas.com addresses though? Should I set the Send To: field to *.CLAMERICAS.COM and the Route To: field to <relay>? Please note that the unix and vms boxes are only able to send and receive email within the company. They are not allowed to send email outside the bank. We have exchange 5.5 SP4 on NT 4.0 SP6a. The connections tab is set to forward all messages to a smart host. The smart host is a mail sweeper server that has its routing tab set as follows: Any email for clamericas.com, forward to IMS Any email for *.clamericas.com, forward to IMS Anything else, forward to the firewall Jose David P.
