I dont think this is a locked article. If it is, subscribe. Also, I would recommend you upgrade BE to 8.6 + latest build before going further. -----Original Message----- From: Tom Seeley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2002 11:57 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: ex2k recovery server I've just been asked to recover a user's mailbox from a backup (to retrieve some deleted contacts). The backups are of the IS (not brick-level) using backup exec 8.5. Having never had to do this before, I'd like some help on the best way of achieving this. I was planning to do the following: 1. Build/find a machine capable of hosting the exchange setup. DONE 2. Install Win2k and Ex2k to same Service pack levels. Let it join the same domain/Exchange ORG/Administrative group in which the "production" exchange system is running (the system from which the backups were taken). 3. Create a mailbox store with the same name as the production system. 4. Perform a "redirected" restore from backup exec. 5. create a temporary user in the AD _without_ creating a mailbox. 6. "reconnect" the mailbox in question on the newly restored server to the tempuser created above. 7. copy off contacts in outlook. Is this correct? I'm just concerned that the restore might adversely affect the production system. Thanks, Tom Seeley. _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The information contained in this email message is privileged and confidential information intended only for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed.
