I used to restore Backup Exec tapes using NTBACKUP so we didn't have to license Backup Exec for the recovery server. Is this still possible in the Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 world?

Let it join the same domain/Exchange ORG/Administrative group in which the "production" exchange system is running (the system from which the backups were taken). 3. Create a mailbox store with the same name as the production system. 4. Perform a "redirected" restore from backup exec. 5. create a temporary user in the AD _without_ creating a mailbox. 6. "reconnect" the mailbox in question on the newly restored server to the tempuser created above. 7. copy off contacts in outlook. Is this correct? I'm just concerned that the restore might adversely affect the production system.
