It all depends on what spec. the server is.  If the server is low spec. and
you are experiencing performance problems then by all means build a new
server on nice new hardware, follow william's instructions and then move
mailboxes, if you intend decommisioning the old server and it is the first
server in the site be sure to follow the steps in this article - Q152959.

I have inherited a 2000 users Exchange 5.5 / NT4 server. I think it makes
sense to set up a 2nd server for any new user mailboxes and / or move some
existing user mailboxes to the new server as well. Is this a daunting
undertaking? Does it makes sense? Thanks from a newbie!
